THE HENDERSON is proud to be part of The Crooked Road. The Crooked Road is a 330 mile driving trail through the mountains of Southwest Virginia that connects nine Major Venues and over 60 Affiliated Venues and Festivals that visitors can enjoy every day of the year. The Crooked Road: Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail is also a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization founded in 2004 whose mission is to support economic development in Southwest Virginia by promoting this region’s rich heritage of traditional music.

The Crooked Road began as an idea in January 2003. And response to the concept from communities, musicians, music venues, and tourism organizations was positive and immediate. As a result of this enthusiasm, “The Crooked Road” now includes nineteen counties, four cities, over 50 towns, five regional planning districts, two tourism organizations, and a large number of music venues.

Mountains of Music Homecoming and The Henderson will present an All-Star Music Camp on June 14 here at The Henderson featuring The All-Star Bluegrass Band:

Billy Baker – fiddle    Sammy Shelor – banjo     Junior Sisk – guitar      Shawn Lane – mandolin     Wayne Taylor – songwriting

This one-day minicamp will be held at The Henderson in Marion, VA, on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, during The Crooked Road’s Mountains of Music Homecoming. Instruction will be provided in fiddle, mandolin, banjo, guitar, songwriting, and performance techniques. The camp is designed for intermediate to advanced students from the region to learn from The Crooked Road All Star Bluegrass Band. This camp will feature a Crooked Road All Star Bluegrass Band performance and discussion of performance techniques. A songwriting workshop will also be presented. Outstanding regional musicians will serve as Assistant Teaching Artists – assisting the All Stars with their individual breakout sessions and leading the afternoon Jam.
