Dana Pleakis believes in the therapeutic power of movement as a pathway to mental and spiritual growth. Her love of movement began when she was a young child, with her training as a ballet dancer. Dana eventually pursued this love on a professional level, graduating with a BFA in Dance from Purchase College in 2006, followed by a seven year career with MillerRothlein (formerly Miro Dance Theatre) of Philadelphia, in addition to performing with the Opera Company of Philadelphia. During college Dana sustained a career-altering injury, but her rehabilitation included Pilates apparatus work, and a new love began to take shape. After moving to New York City, Dana obtained her mat and apparatus certification in 2009 from The Lab in Brooklyn and has been a full-time instructor since then. Never content or complacent, Dana has recently begun the next phase of her journey: she is currently completing graduate study of occupational therapy at Emory & Henry College.
