Chilhowie artist and instructor, Kaloni “Sunshine” Clark is inviting you to participate in a juried show at The Wayne C. Henderson School of Appalachian Arts in Marion, VA. This is open to all artists aged 18 and over residing in Smyth and surrounding counties. this is open to all visual art forms in 2D, 3D, Photography and Digital Art. Kaloni is excited to see how alive and well the art world in Southwest Virginia has become in recent years.

Submission Guidelines for “Underground Artists Arise”
All Media 2D, 3D, Photography and Digital Artworks: ENTRY DEADLINE: May 24th, 2024
Underground Artists Arise is a juried exhibit and sale of 2D, 3D, Photography, and Digital art: painting, drawing, mixed media, pottery, wood working, glass, jewelry, and digital designs.
Each artist may submit up to three artwork entries beginning Saturday, May 4th, 2024.
All artworks must have been created completely by the artist submitting the entry form. Artwork must be original, not infringe on any copyright, and be suitable for family viewing.
Submission for jurying will consist of up to three actual photos of artwork (or show ready completed work), the entry form, and entry fee; if actual photo is submitted, each photo of artwork must be printed on 4×6” or 5×7” photo paper. The back of each photo must have the artist’s name, medium, and artwork title. The deadline for receipt of your submission is May 17th, 2024. Please include a note if you want your photos back.
Notifications will be sent by email during the week of May 27th, 2024, through May 31st, 2024, as to which artwork, if any has been accepted. There is no guarantee any artwork from a given artist will be accepted. Entry fees are non-refundable.
Images will be juried based on quality and originality.
Framed Artwork: Accepted artwork must be in a frame or matt with hanging capability. Artwork not meeting these standards will be rejected. Artists must supply any custom displays needed for 3D artwork.
Each piece must have the artist’s name, contact number, artwork title, sale price/NFS, medium, size and viewing orientation on the back with the labels provided. Artist Statement and short Bio (in email or Word doc please).
Artwork may be for sale or not for sale (NFS). The Henderson School commission is 20% plus the cost of any materials that may be needed for hanging purposes. (Wire, staples, hooks, etc.)
Artists must specify the size of 2D, and Photography artwork and size of space needed to display 3D art on entry form.
The entry form must be clearly legible and filled out completely, including a signature.
Entry Fee: $10 per piece, with a limit of 3 entries per artist. Cash, Check, or Money Order payable to The Henderson. Please include with entry form and photos. Entry fees are non-refundable.
Cash awards and ribbons will be given for one overall Best of Show, Places First, Second, and Third in each category 2D, 3D, Photography, Digital Art. One Honorable mention in each category and One overall People’s Choice prize will also be given.
All artists are encouraged to attend. Judges will be introduced at the Opening. The show closes on Monday, July 29th, 2024. Work will be available for pick-up by August 5th, 2024, between 9am and 4pm. Please contact Kaloni Clark after the show closes to schedule a different date and time if needed. The Wayne C. Henderson School of Appalachian Arts is a non-profit organization. All shipping costs to and from the gallery of unsold works are the artist’s responsibility.
